With the goal of helping your summer shine a little brighter, our team researched the top places in Central Texas with magnificent views of the night sky.1)    The PearlWhile some of the restaurants will have closed before the sun goes down, the large patch of grass they are all surrounding remains open to the public. Grab a charcuterie spread at Cured and make it a date-night under the stars, or pop by Café Lorraine to get macaroons with the kids and make it a starlit family outing. It’s a lovely place to spread out a blanket and relax, large enough to leave six feet of distance between you and your stargazing neighbors.Sadly, events at the Pearl are cancelled for the foreseeable future, so though their Yoga Under the Stars event that Nomadic Yoga put on at Pearl Park cannot currently be experienced in-person, you are able to participate from the comfort of your own back yard with their online version. Photo Credit: Melinda Gonzalez of Nomadic Yoga2)    Fort McKavett Historic SiteThis one is for all of the history buffs out there. It’s perfect as a daytrip and evening outing all in one; I’m sure we can agree the more time killed, the better. While the sun is still up, you can tour the historic fort and learn something new about good old San Anton’ and its history. When the sun sets, pull out your favorite quilt and gaze at the clearest night sky you have ever seen. All in all, this trip to Fort McKavett is definitely one for the bucket list (and a potential subject for your kid’s next history paper). Stocked with a high-tech telescope and an actual astronomer to go with it, you’ll walk out of the Eagle Eye Observatory having learned tons of new facts. Like many other places though, the facility has recently had to limit the occupancy of the observatory, so now the EEO is limited to private viewing only. Make sure to call and book your viewing ahead of time, and you’ll be good to go! This the ideal weekend getaway for those of you going a little stir crazy and ready to be one with nature. After a day of outdoor adventures, unwind while you soak up a sky full of stars completely absent of light pollution. Day passes and camping reservations arranged in advance are required for these state parks and many others, so make sure to plan accordingly.
